Wooden house built for a timber merchant about 100 years ago

Mikuniminato, located at the mouth of Kuzuryu River flowing into the Japan Sea, was prosperous as a port for a small cargo vessels. These small cargo vessels, known as "Kitamaebune", played an active role in marine transport of the Japan Sea. The former Kishina house, which was used for generations by the family, was built by Kishina Sosuke, a timber dealer at Mikuniminato. On display are the store cashier, Japanese-style rooms, and a kitchen on the first floor. Also, information on cultural leaders associated with Mikuni is exhibited on the second floor so that visitors can learn about the merchant culture exclusive for Mikuni.
